Leadership In Energy and Environmental Design

Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED provides building owners and operators with a framework for identifying and implementing measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions.

LEED certification consists of a number of different rating systems that apply to many building types – commercial as well as residential – and measures how well a building performs across many sustainability metrics including: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.

Whether your project is new construction or renovation, energy efficient roofing, water run-off management and renewable energy are all important points to consider – and Sika Roofing makes it easy. A Sika roof can qualify for the attainment of 1 point under Sustainable Sites Credit 7.2 and contribute towards the attainment of up to 28 additional Points as described on the accompanying pages for LEED V 2.2 and LEED V 3.

With more than 45 years of experience providing long lasting, energy efficient roofing and waterproofing systems – combined with the knowledge gained from working on dozens of LEED certified buildings – Sika Roofing is uniquely qualified to assist you with your LEED project.

Sustainable Sites

Site Development:
Protect or Restore Habitat
A Green "Vegetated" roof contributes to the possible 2 points.
Site Development:
Open Space
A Green "Vegetated" roof contributes to the possible 1 point.
Rainwater Management A Green "vegetated" roof contributes to the other possible 3 points.
Heat Island Reduction An EnergySmart Roof or a Green "vegetated" Roof can obtain up to 2 points.
Places of Respite A Green "vegetated" Roof contributes to the possible 1 point.

Energy & Atmosphere

Sika's Solar Roof System can contribute to multiple points in LEED's Energy and Atmosphere.

Renewable Energy Production A Sika SolaRoof can reduce the need for fossil fuel energy contributing to the possible 3 points.

Materials and Resources

Sika Roofing's Roof Recycling Program, EPD's and third party verifications can be used to obtain multiple points in LEED's Materials and Resources category.

Building Product Disclosure and Optimization-Environmental Product Declarations
Sika Roofing's Sarnafil and Sikaplan roof membrane product specific Type III EPDs (Cradle to Gate and Cradle to Grave) contribute to the possible 2 points.
Certified Multi-attribute Products and Materials
Sika Sarnafil has membranes certified to NSF/ANSI 347-2018 A Sustainability Assessment for Single Ply Roofing Membranes.
Building Product Disclosure and Optimization-Sourcing of Raw Materials
Most Sika Sarnafil membrane products contain and average of 10% recycled content and can contribute to the possible 2 points.
Building Product Disclosure and Optimization- Material Ingredients Sika Roofing systems do not contain any substances that meet REACH criteria for substances of very high concern and therefore can contribute to the International Alternative Compliance Path option and can contribute to the possible 2 points.
Construction and Demolition Waste Management
Sika's Roof Recycling Program contributes to the possible 2 points.

Environmental Quality

Sika Roofing's Low or No VOC emitting roof membrane adhesives and stone wool insulation can be used to obtain multiple points in LEED's Environmental Quality Category.

Minimum Acoustic Performance
Sika roofing systems with Roxul stone wool insulation contributes to the possible 1 point.
Low-Emitting Materials
Sika Roofing's Low or No VOC emitting roofing adhesives and coatings contribute to the possible 3 points.

Sikalastic LEED Contributions

The use of Sikalastic RoofPro and RoofCoat products and accessories can add to a Building’s LEED® v4 credits and points. There are still many projects based on LEED 2009, but there is an increasing number of projects now requiring information based on LEED® v4. Projects seeking LEED® certification and registered after October 2016 require LEED® v4.

There are up to four possible credits for the LEED® v4 rating system that applies to Sikalastic RoofPro and RoofCoat products and are addressed in the below letter. All information concerning LEED® credits was obtained from LEED v4 for BUILDING DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION updated January 11, 2019. Always refer to the specific LEED® literature for details concerning credits and when they can be taken. As on all projects, LEED® v4 credits awarded for construction products should be reviewed, determined, and/or approved by the authorized LEED® Accredited Professional.
