Sika Corporation and Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) are once again joining forces to do good, this time in the Bay Area of California. On Saturday, August 19, volunteers from both Sika and CSI will come together during “Give Back Day” to provide some long overdue upgrades and maintenance to the popular community garden at Adam Rogers Park in downtown San Francisco.

Sika to Take Part in Give Back Day 2017

The Adam Rogers Park and Community Garden is part of the immense San Francisco Recreation and Parks system, but the day-to-day facilitation is managed by the Bayview Hunters Point Youth Organization. Each week from Tuesday to Thursday, this youth organization hosts a small but growing program for 20 kids from the neighborhood to learn about the importance of youth enterprise, community building and the environment with hands-on lessons. Adam Rogers Garden is also a space in which families from the surrounding community can gather and enjoy.

"The opportunity created by our partnership project is that it recognizes that we're a stronger city, when the public, private, and nonprofit sector comes together, united around the spirit and promise of neighborhood revitalization," noted Jennifer Leshnower, Program Director and Project Lead for Rebuilding Together San Francisco. "'Give Back Day' is a reflection of our shared commitment to building community, one day, and one project at a time."

“Being able to once again partner with the local CSI chapter for our Give Back Day event is something I am extremely excited about,” said Brian Blaquiere, Director of Marketing Communications for Sika. “Last year in Chicago, Sika and CSI worked together to fix up YOUth CAN, a local youth community center, and this year we have once again chosen a project focused on those children less fortunate.”

Some of the work our volunteers will be tasked with will be the much-needed maintenance and improvements related to:

  • Building (2) 3’ x 10’ log retaining walls
  • Improving the existing terraced garden infrastructure
  • Building (1) compost bin
  • Relocating green waste to better serve garden
  • General gardening, weeding and clearing
