This is one of only 13 presidential libraries in the country and one of only 20 commercial buildings in the State of Texas to have achieved LEED® Platinum certification.
The project involved both waterproofing and roofing applications, with Cardinal Roofing entrusted to install a system that would protect massive amounts of historical records, artifacts, and photos documenting the legacy of our 43rd president.
For the waterproofing applications, a Sarnafil® grid system was laid out and the Sarnafil G476 waterproofing membrane was loose laid on balconies, terraces and roof areas that function as vegetated green roofs, paved walkways or plazas. Separation and protection layers, insulation, and a filter fabric were then installed prior to the placement of the overburden.
The EnergySmart Roof®, utilizing an 80 mil Sarnafil G410 membrane, was adhered to 72,000 sq. ft. of roof area, the majority of which is fully tapered and maintains an R-value of 30.
The Center’s irreplaceable contents include iron trusses from the World Trade Center towers and a gallery of photographs from September 11 through October 30, 2001, detailing the tragic events occurring at that time.
