Competition Highlights Excellence in Roofing Installation
CANTON, MA – February 24, 2015 – Winners of the annual Project of the Year competition were announced today by Sika, the worldwide market leader in thermoplastic roofing and waterproofing membranes. A winner and two finalists were recognized for outstanding workmanship in the areas of design, application and installation. The awards in four categories: Low Slope, Steep Slope, Waterproofing and Sustainability are for projects completed using a Sika thermoplastic membrane for roofing or waterproofing applications.

Kazemi & Associates, Los Angeles, CA won first place for installing a showcase light grey Sarnafil® EnergySmart Roof® roof on a dramatic home in Malibu. Now the rooftop is as stunning as the rest of the ultra modern glass/concrete structure.
The second place winner was Advanced Roofing, Inc. of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, for installing a roof at an active airport, Cyril E. King Airport in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. Third place went to Red Pointe Roofing, Orange, CA, for the Park Place Apartments in Irvine, CA.
Harold J. Becker Company, Inc. of Dayton, OH was awarded first place for their work on Wogaman 5-8 School, Dayton, OH. The school now boasts Sika’s aesthetically pleasing and long-lasting Décor Roof System.
NU-TEK Roof Systems, Inc. of Lake Hepatcong, NJ was the second place finisher for the Queenship of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Plainsboro, NJ. Merit Roofing Systems, Inc., Richardson, TX was the third place finalist for the American Museum of Agriculture in Lubbock, TX.
Lutz Roofing Company, Inc. of Shelby Township, MI took first place in the Waterproofing class for Karmanos Family Birthing Center, Royal Oak, MI. The company transformed two roofs of the hospital into a walkable garden by installing a vegetated green roof where new mothers and families can now enjoy Mother Nature.
Second place in this category went to AAR Roofing of North Caroline for the USC Darla Moore School of Business in Columbia, SC. Bennett & Brosseau Roofing, Inc. of Romeoville, IL, took third place for Northwestern Memorial Hospital – Outpatient Care Pavilion in Chicago, IL.
In the Sustainable category, I.S. Roofing & Construction, Inc. of Ponce, Puerto Rico won for the Cantano Ferry Boat Terminal in Cantano, Puerto Rico, the world’s largest ferry boat terminal station.
In second place was Waterproofing Associates of Mountain View, CA for the Hewlett-Packard Global Operations Headquarters in Palo Alto, CA, and in third place for this grouping was Eberhard Roofing & Waterproofing, Van Nuys, CA for the Pomona College Studio Art Hall in Claremont, CA.
