Abstract: The “cool” roofing concept has been introduced to the commercial roofing industry in the 1960s. Since then about 5 billion square feet of light-colored thermoplastic PVC roof systems have been installed and various entities such as ASHRAE and the US Green Building Council’s LEED program have implemented cool roofing requirements. "Still Cool After All These Years" an article written by Stanley P. Graveline published in the October issue of Professional Roofing Magazine addresses critics within the commercial roofing industry that have questioned the science behind cool roofs, their effects on energy in northern climates and their overall performance.
